From Around the World Friday

I had a piece featured on See Colombia Travel this week: Expectations vs. Reality: A Female US Traveler to Colombia. I was thrilled to contribute to the best Colombia travel blog of 2014; their blog is one of the first places I look when planning an adventure in my new country.

An exceptionally informative travel guide to Ecuador written by Uncornered Market. Hoping to make my way there this year.

It's almost hiring season if you're interested in teaching abroad; I had success using the agency Search Associates last year if you're interested in making the leap.

10 Epic Star Wars Destinations that Aren't in a Galaxy Far, Far Away...I'm sensing the force is strong with this travel itinerary.

We've been enjoying the Colombian Christmas Traditions. Aaron and I wandered to a few neighborhoods to take in all the (often, flashing) lights around Manizales...and eating all the buΓ±uelos. And waking up in the middle of the night to fireworks....every night. For the last week. One thing is true, Colombians know how to party.

And finally, a piece that made me laugh out loud, Travel Clothing: A Symphony of Horrors in Nylon

Teacher & traveler seeking bright sides and adventures. I recently left my position as a Title 1 middle school teacher in Spokane, WA for a position in Manizales, Colombia teaching English and Geography at a bilingual private school. I'm passionate about education in action, the power of literature, and traveling the world. Optimism Rampage is a place for me to reflect on the adventure. β€œStuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. see the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. Ask no guarantees, ask for no security, there never was such an animal. And if there were, it would be related to the great sloth which hangs upside down in a tree all day every day, sleeping its life away. To hell with that . Shake the tree and knock the great sloth down on his ass.” -Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
